Sadly we had to say goodbye to Makalay last week, our Sweet Salone Coordinator for the past 1,5 years. Since she set foot in our office, Makalay has been an enormous support and helped our Sweet Salone project grow. Some of her milestones include the preparation and shipment of our first container full of Sweet Salone goods, and her help in organizing our first two pop-up markets in Freetown!
As part of her goodbye party, we spent our Saturday at the Lettie Stuart Pottery where the team of Aurora Foundation participated in a fun pottery workshop. We wish Makalay all the best in her future career!
We are very excited to announce that applications for our next Cohort have opened! Over the past months, we have gathered feedback from both current as well as previous cohorts, and made some changes to the programme. Something that has changed, is that as of Cohort 4, sessions will be held every other Wednesday. As usual, sessions will be held at Aurora Foundation’s office in Lumley, Freetown.
We welcome everyone to apply digitally (click here!), or by filling out a physical copy, which can be picked up at Aurora Foundation’s office, located at 186 Wilkinson Road, Lumley, Freetown.
Aurora’s office is back in full swing again after a calm rainy period. Behind the scenes, however, a lot has happened over the past months. Suzanne and Samuel have been working on amending the pre-accelerator programme (which you will read soon more about!), and Regina and Makalay have been working with our artisans on our long-term strategy.
With regards to cohort 3 of our pre-accelerator programme, we are also excited to announce some developments!
BREathe Yoga & Wellbeing
While some of us rather avoid going out in the rains, the team of BREathe Yoga & Wellbeing has certainly not! This summer they have secured their yoga studio, located at the National Stadium, where they are now teaching yoga classes on a daily basis. They have also been working on creating their business plan and their social media presence together with Samuel at Aurora’s office.
Also exciting things happening for Hickmatu, as she has ensured her first exhibition at the Swiss Hotel in Freetown on the 30th of September (tickets are sold via Swiss Hotel directly). During this summer, she pitched her business during the EWC National Finals, worked with Samuel on her set goals, and did a number of photoshoots for, amongst others, the BREathe Yoga & Wellbeing team (see photo above).
Youth Empowerment Forum
While both founders have been busy with running the business in Kono and university in Freetown, they have managed to keep their programme running. They currently have the 2nd group of students enrolled in their life skills programme and are planning their third group to start in the beginning of next year.
