Aurora Foundation Celebrates Grand Opening of The Aurora House

06.02.25

On February 5, 2025, Aurora Foundation marked a monumental milestone with the grand opening of its new office and shop, The Aurora House, located at 35 Fraser Street, Freetown, Sierra Leone. This event, attended by esteemed government officials, UN agencies, nonprofit organizations, and key collaborators and stakeholders, was an evening filled with warmth, excitement, and shared commitment to Aurora’s mission.

The event began with inspiring words from our co-founders, Ólafur Ólafsson and Ingibjörg Kristjansdóttir, who took a moment to reflect on Aurora Foundation’s incredible 18-year journey. Celebrating our 18th anniversary on January 23, we looked back on the tireless efforts and dedication that have shaped the foundation’s growth, its impact on local communities, and the positive changes we’ve been fortunate enough to be part of in Sierra Leone.

Following the co-founders’ remarks, our Executive Director, Regina Bjarnadottir, delivered a heartfelt speech. Regina spoke passionately about the foundation’s vision for the future and the importance of continuing our work to uplift local communities, empowering individuals through innovative programs and partnerships that promote sustainable development.

We then had a moving testimonial video showcasing some of the beneficiaries of Aurora Foundation’s work. The video featured personal stories and heartfelt accounts of individuals whose lives have been positively impacted by our programs. It served as a powerful reminder of the profound difference we are making on the ground and the ripple effect of our collective efforts.

The speeches were further enriched by words from the Minister of Trade, Ibrahim Alpha Sesay. Minister Sesay emphasized the significance of projects like Sweet Salone in driving economic growth and development in Sierra Leone, underscoring his ministry’s commitment to supporting the ongoing work of Aurora Foundation. His words were a reaffirmation of the strong partnership between Aurora Foundation and the government.

The evening continued with remarks from Minister of Youth, Mohamed Bangura, who highlighted the substantial contributions Aurora Foundation has made to youth development and empowerment in Sierra Leone. In a pivotal moment, Minister Bangura signed a formal agreement with Aurora Foundation, reinforcing the commitment to even more collaboration and initiatives moving forward.

Also in attendance were distinguished figures such as Nabeela Fareda Tunis, Minister of Tourism, and Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, Minister of Agriculture, along with other esteemed leaders, who joined us in celebrating this significant occasion.

With music, laughter, and a palpable sense of excitement in the air, the event was both a celebration and a reaffirmation of the commitment to building a brighter, more sustainable future for Sierra Leone. As we look ahead, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and are grateful for the continued support of our partners, stakeholders, and the incredible community that surrounds us. Together, we are creating lasting change and making a real difference.
