Martha is passionate about fashion design, but opportunities to learn are few in Sierra Leone. Her dream is to become a well-established fashion designer and open up a school to teach others.
She grew up in a small village but moved to her grandmother in Freetown when she was seven years old to go to school. She grew up in a large family and has 11 siblings, of which only a few have been able to attend school. She is one of the lucky ones and currently supports two of her younger brothers to attend school.
Martha has been working as a tailor and fashion designer for the past five years. She learned tailoring from a friend of her grandmother, a great mentor who has taught Martha a lot. Martha currently works independently and is a proud owner of the first sewing machine she bought with money she has earned through tailoring..
