Aurora Foundation is excited to announce a new upcoming event, called Inspirational Talks,or Inspirational Tok in Krio!
Aurora’s Inspirational Talks aim to inspire and motivate the youth in Sierra Leone. Throughout all programs at Aurora Foundation, we urge young people to dream big, identify their passion and pave their own paths. We believe that giving training and providing a safe space to empower youth is one part of the solution. Still, the other important element is to expose them to possible role models, to assist them in transforming their vision into tangible proof of the endless possibilities available to them.
In order to do so, we have identified the first speakers that both have a powerful story that we believe has the power to inspire youth. The event will be free to attend, but registration through the following link will be mandatory in order to secure a seat.
The event will last for 1-2 hours, with time for questions and answers from the audience and the opportunity to network afterwards. We are hereby very excited to announce our two speakers!
Speaker 1: Ajara Marie Bomah
Ajara Marie Bomah is a professional, business mogul and marketing executive with a critical focus on women in business in Africa. She is a humanitarian that works to change the lives of young people, especially girls in Africa. After her education in the United States, Ajara moved to Sierra Leone with the passion to help grow talent and rebuild the country by developing capacity and mentoring youth, women, and girls. In 2013 she launched her community platform for bringing African women businesses together; named Women Mean Business (WMB), WMB cultivates, inspires, and empower African female entrepreneurs and serves as a vehicle for collaboration, mentoring and networking, creating safe spaces for female entrepreneurs and young leaders to follow their dreams and turn their passions into profit.
As a leader and innovator, Ajara believes that you must be the change you want to see happen and had made it her duty to play a part in the development of Sierra Leone through her involvement in social and business organizations as well as serving as a mentor to young women and girls in Sierra Leone and abroad. She was recently recognized as one of the 50 Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women.
Speaker 2: Ishmael Beah
Ishmael Beah is the Sierra Leonean and American author of Radiance of Tomorrow, A Novel, and the memoir A Long Way Gone, which was a #1 New York Times and international bestseller and has been published in over fourty languages. His novel, written with the gentle lyricism of a dream and the moral clarity of a fable is a powerful book about preserving what means the most to us, even in uncertain times. His third book, Little Family was recently published on April 28, 2020. It is a profound and tender portrayal of the connections we forge to survive the fate we’re dealt with and marks the further blossoming of a unique global voice. Ishmael is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and currently lives in Freetown, Sierra Leone with his wife and three children.
