The students at the Lettie Stuart Pottery graduated!

23.02.21

On Saturday, eight pottery students finally graduated from the Lettie Stuart Pottery training course. Almost two years ago, they commenced the 18-month program, but due to COVID we had to close for few months, hence, the journey became two years. We are very proud of their determination, stamina and all the efforts they have put into the program and they have truly developed as fine potters. We started with 10 students and there were 8 who stayed until graduation. We are very proud to have been able to hold on to so many students throughout the course.

We want to thank everyone who assisted in making this training course a success: Gudbjörg Káradóttir and Halldóra Jóhanna Þorláksdóttir, that helped us design and create the curriculum, Mr. Zamzow and Mrs. Gardner from the American International School of Freetown who supported the course with math teaching. Yasmin Metz-Johnson who taught the students about marketing and branding. Gudbjorg Káradóttir (again!) and Peter Korompai, potters from Iceland and Hungary who have given a lot of their time to share their knowledge and support the students and the Center. Tinna Gunnarsdóttir, a professor at the Art University of Iceland, who taught a course for couple of weeks where the focus was on expressing oneself, experimenting with creativity and thinking outside of the box. And last but not least, our fine partners at SLADEA, who without them the Pottery would never have existed in the first place.

And big congratulations to the trainers themselves, the potters and the coordinator at the Lettie Stuart Pottery, who have worked very hard over the past two years to develop the Pottery Center at the same time as running the training course! They have done an excellent job.

We are excited to see how the graduates will develop in the future, some are already working at the Center as interns, and hopefully we will be able to employ them as full-time potters at some point.
