Technovation is a global tech education nonprofit, which’ aim is to empower girls and families. Every year, Technovation hosts numerous programs around the world, during which girls between the age of 10-18 are able to access a platform where they can acquire the skills they require when they want to become technology entrepreneurs and leaders. One of the outcomes of Technovation is that after completion of the programme, 58% of the girls that have participated are enrolling in computer science courses.
Besides the platform, the girls are working in small groups while being guided by a mentor from the industry. Since 2009, over 10,000 girls have participated in Technovation from over 78 countries, and over 1,700 mobile apps have been created by the Technovation participants!
This year, Technovation has launched in Sierra Leone.
Aurora Foundation is proud to be one of the main sponsors of Technovation Girls Sierra Leone, and has additionally provided them with six laptops which were donated to us by Islandsbanki. The laptops will be used by the girls to acquire basic coding skills as well as to develop a mobile application in order to solve real-world problems.
